What kinplace keeps about you, and why.
Kinplace is invite-only while it's being built. This page says plainly what it holds, where it comes from, who else sees it, and what you can do about it.
Who runs kinplace
Kinplace is run by [name of the person or company running kinplace]. For anything on this page, contact [contact email address].
What we hold
| What | Where it comes from | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your name and email address, and an ID from the service you signed in with | The sign-in service: Tailscale today, Google once kinplace is public | To know it's you, and to show who did what in your household |
| Your household: its members and who owns it | You, and the invites you accept | So your family's lists are shared with your family and nobody else |
| Your children's first names, birth month and year, and optionally whether each is a boy or a girl | You | To work out school years and application dates. Boy or girl is only used to leave out single-sex schools that wouldn't take them. We never ask for full dates of birth or photos. |
| Your home's address and details, your shortlists, watchlists, comments and plans | You | This is what kinplace is for |
| Where you work, if you add it | You | To work out commute times |
| Invites and shared links you create, and when they were opened | You and the people you share with | So you can see who has access, and remove it |
| If you buy kinplace Plus: your plan, its dates, the two checkout boxes you ticked or left, and Stripe's ids for your payment. Never your card details. | You, and Stripe's notices of each payment | To give your household Plus, keep the record the law needs of what you agreed, and send the emails a paid plan needs (confirmation, reminders, a failed payment, the end of a pass) |
| Usage counts: which pages are opened and which features are used | Your visits | To see what helps and what doesn't. See "Usage counts" below. |
Our lawful basis
Holding your account and household details is necessary to provide the service you asked for (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b)). Usage counts are kept in our legitimate interest in improving kinplace (Article 6(1)(f)). They are minimal and anonymous for anyone not signed in, and you can ask us to stop.
Usage counts
Kinplace counts visits itself. No third-party analytics, no advertising and no trackers. Nothing is stored on your device to do it. If you're signed in, events are linked to your account. If you're not, you're a code made from your IP address, your browser and a secret that changes every day, so you can't be followed from one day to the next. Events are deleted after 13 months.
Measuring our marketing
When kinplace advertises, it measures which ads and links bring families who go on to use it. Your browser then gets a first-party id (crowfly_anon), and kinplace's own marketing service (the Growth Agent, run by us) is told when a page is opened (with the address it was opened at, which carries any ad's click id), when an account is created, and the first time a family is saved or a school or home shortlisted. Nothing about your children, schools or homes goes with it. This is first-party analytics, allowed without prior consent under the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025; you can switch it off on the cookies page.
Telling an ad platform (Google, Meta, TikTok) that someone who came from its ad signed up is advertising, and happens only if you press "Accept". With your consent your email address is sent to them hashed, so they can match it to their own record of the click; it is not kept in readable form. You can change your mind at any time on the cookies page.
Who else sees it
- The people in your household see and change everything the household holds.
- People you share a list with see that list only, and only while the link is open.
- Tailscale (and Google, once public) confirm who you are when you sign in. They learn that you used kinplace. They don't see what you keep in it.
- Stripe takes payments for kinplace Plus, on its own pages, as our payment processor. It holds your card details and your email address, and keeps the invoices the law requires. Kinplace never sees your card. Stripe's privacy policy is at stripe.com/gb/privacy.
- Where kinplace runs: today a computer owned by the person running kinplace. When kinplace goes public, a hosting provider will store the data on our behalf, and this page will name them.
We don't sell your data or pass it to anyone else.
How long we keep it
For as long as you have an account. Usage events are kept for 13 months. When you delete your account, it's removed straight away, together with your links and your usage events, and any Plus subscription you pay for is cancelled with no further charge. The payment records the law requires for tax are kept by Stripe. Comments you wrote stay on the household's lists, marked "Former member", because they're part of the household's record.
Your rights
- See and take your data: use "Download my data" in Your account for one file of everything held about you.
- Delete it: use "Delete my account" in Your account.
- Correct it, restrict it or object to it: contact us at the address above.
- Complain: to the Information Commissioner's Office, ico.org.uk, if you think we've got this wrong.
Security
Kinplace can only be reached over Tailscale's encrypted network today. Every change must come from kinplace's own pages, so another website can't act as you, and shared links are long random codes that expire.
